Work in Australia
Immigration to Australia operates on a points based system. To qualify for an Australian visa you will need to gain at least 100 total points based on age, language capabilities, training, education, professional skills and experience, and your partner’s skill (if applicable). See ‘Moving to Australia: assessing your eligibility’ for more details on points assessment.
Australia’s Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) relies on the Skilled Occupations List to guide decisions on migrations. Migrants with experience in health occupations found on this list have the highest chance of being granted an Australian visa.
It is necessary to pass Australian Medical Council or Australian Nursing Council exams to be registered to practice in Australia; however, state and territory medical boards have the authority to proceed to conditional registration of doctors without examination.
There is currently a significant shortage of doctors and nurses in Australia, particularly in regional areas. See ‘Visas for doctors and nurses’ for additional details.
