Work in Qatar

Qatar needs healthcare workers for a wide range of occupational industries, including registered nurses, midwives and doctors.

The country offers great career opportunities and attractive salary packages to its foreign workers. Despite not having a set minimum wage, the exemption of income tax in Qatar makes salaries highly competitive in the international market. In fact, Qatar is the second highest per capita income country in the world.

To work in Qatar, you must have a valid residence permit and a work visa. In order to be granted either, you must be sponsored by a local employer. Your employer will be responsible for initiating the visa application process, through a request to the Ministry of Interior of Qatar, for all legal authorisations to hire a foreign worker.

You will then need to travel to Qatar on a single entry visa in order to carry out all administrative procedures and start your residency application process.

Local companies often undertake visa and permit applications for their foreign workers, but you will still have a part to play as, amongst other things, you will be asked for blood tests and x-rays.

Your visa will only allow you to work for your sponsor and, if you want to take on a role in a different company, you must have spent a minimum of two years with your original sponsor. Unless your first sponsor gives you a No Objection Certificate (NOC), sponsorship cannot be transferred to your new employer.

You can bring your family to Qatar with you under your visa. However, that visa does not allow your spouse or dependants to work in Qatar. In order to do that, they must find a sponsor and go through the same procedures.
